The First Canistota Summer Athletic Enhancement Program: A Huge Success!
From June 2nd to July 30th, student-athletes committed to 24 early morning sessions (6:30–8:30AM) focused on plyometrics/core, weightlifting, and speed/agility. Each participant completed testing on day one and again on the final day—and the results speak for themselves!
Average Athletic Improvements:
• Vertical Jump: +1 inch
• Broad Jump: +5.5 inches
• Bench Press: +7.5 lbs
• Front Squat: +26.5 lbs
• Hexbar Deadlift: +41 lbs
• Pro-Agility: 1.75 sec faster
• Edgren Sidestep Shuffle: +2.5
• 40-Yard Dash: 1 sec faster
• Mile Run: 1:35 faster
Greatest Improvement Awards:
• Top Attendance: Miles Heinzmann & Colin Cogswell
• Vertical Jump Gain: Ellie Becker
• Broad Jump Gain: Sam Schroeder

All participants made significant gains in their athleticism. Despite the intensity of the workouts, they had fun, built camaraderie, and pushed each other to give their best every rep, run, and jump.
Coach K, Coach Decker, and Coach Schumacher are proud of the hard work and effort put in by this group and are already looking forward to Summer 2026.

Dear Parents and Students,
We encourage you to attend our Open House on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM. This event provides a valuable opportunity for students and families to meet classroom teachers and pick up important materials that need to be completed before the school year begins.
When you arrive, please enter through Door J and head to The Barn, where we will have several stations set up to assist you:
Welcome Packet Pick-Up: This will be your first stop upon entering The Barn. Inside the packet are documents that will require completion before August 14th, 2025.
Infinite Campus: Learn how to access Infinite Campus, our platform for tracking academic progress throughout the year. We’ll ensure both students and parents can log in successfully.
Lunch Accounts: At this station, you can add funds to your student’s lunch account and receive instructions on how to manage it moving forward.
In addition to these stations, we will host grade-level parent-student meetings. These meetings are designed to review the Student Handbook and provide a chance to connect with school leadership. Also, following your stop in The Barn and the grade level meeting. You and your child(ren) can tour the school and classroom.
We’re excited to welcome Mr. Kent Van Overschelde as the new elementary and middle school principal. These meetings will give families the opportunity to meet him. High school students will meet with Mr. Campbell and Mr. Fischer. Meeting times and locations are listed below:

The 1st Annual Canistota Gauntlet Games = SUCCESS! 💪🔥
The Canistota Athletic Enhancement Program wrapped up with a bang as athletes teamed up for the inaugural Gauntlet Games! 💥
From flipping 250lb tires and hauling 5-gallon water jugs, to crushing med ball heaves and tackling an 800-meter team relay—these athletes showed off serious strength, speed, stamina, and GRIT! 💥💦
Even a little rain couldn’t dampen their energy or competitive spirit. 🌧️🔥
A huge thank you to The Total Stop for supporting our event and donating gift card prizes! 🙌👏
We were missing five athletes due to prior commitments, but their teammates brought the heat for all of them!

A friendly reminder that June 30-July 7, 2025, the Canistota School District gyms (Main, The Barn, and multiple purpose) will be shut down starting at 9 AM on June 30th for gym preparation to apply a new coat of wax. Gyms will be off limit to school district and non school district personnel until July 8, 2025.
The SDHSAA Moratorium will begin on July 1st and end at midnight on July 7th. During this time, no school sponsored or affiliated activity may take place. This restriction on activities includes any team contact, individual contact, private lessons, open gym, or other situation wherein coaches will interact with student-athletes in an activity wherein coaching, guidance, or supervision is provided. We will resume open gym sessions on July 8, 2025, at 6:30 AM.

The SDHSAA Academic Achievement Team Award program began during the 1996-1997 school year and is designed to recognize varsity athletic teams and fine arts groups for their academic excellence. To earn the award a team must have above a 3.0 GPA.

"Making athletes better, faster, and stronger every day." These workouts are tough, and it requires mental toughness and discipline each day to roll out of bed early on a summer morning and put in the work! Props to all our Athletic Enhancement participants!

Construction Ag Class Chicken Coop Project Surplused and Up for Auction
This year’s Construction Ag class successfully designed and built a chicken coop as part of their hands-on learning experience. At the May 12, 2025 school board meeting, the board officially declared the chicken coop as surplus property.
The coop will be sold at the upcoming Wieman Land & Auction Consignment Auction on June 10, 2025, and is listed as Lot #: 4346.
We’re proud of the hard work and craftsmanship our students put into this project, and we look forward to seeing it find a new home!
