NIAAA Scholarship
Important Notes:
Handwritten applications will not be accepted.
Schools may submit one male and one female applicant for the state competition. If more than one application per gender is submitted, your school’s selection committee should choose the best applicant to advance.
Scholarship Details:
A female and male state winner will be selected by the SDIAAA scholarship committee. Each winner will receive:
A plaque
A $500.00 scholarship
State winners will advance to the Section V selection committee. Section winners will each receive:
A plaque
A $1,500.00 scholarship
National winners will each receive:
A $2,500.00 scholarship
A glass etching
The opportunity to attend the National Conference of Athletic Administrators in December to present their essay.
Minimum Requirements
Applicant must be a senior in high school.
Applicant must have achieved at least one (1) of the following: (a) minimum of B+ average; (b)ranked in the top 25% of class; (c) ACT score of 24 or an SAT score of 1100 (Math and Reading)
Applicant must have participated in two sports for at least two years in each sport.
Applicant must have earned at least one varsity letter in each of two sports.
Applicant must complete attached scholar/essay application.
Applicant must have a letter of recommendation from the high school athletic administrator/director.
School athletic administrator/director must be an NIAAA member and a member of their respective state athletic administrators association.
The principal or athletic administrator/director must sign the application to ensure that the academic information submitted is accurate.
All hard copy materials must be postmarked, or electronic materials sent to the NIAAA Liaison in your respective state by your state’s deadline.

Golden West Scholarship
Golden West Scholarship Rules/Guidelines and Application
Completed applications are due March 14, 2025
The Golden West scholarships help South Dakota students pursue degrees in a variety of fields at colleges, universities, and technical schools across the country. They award $1,000 scholarships to 40-plus graduating seniors, one for each high school in their exchanges and one at-large scholarship is available to home-schooled students or those who live in their service area but attend a high school not covered by the program.
Only at-large students (those attending high schools outside the Golden West service area), may submit their application directly to Golden West, other students must obtain and submit applications through their school's counselor.
Who Is Eligible?
The student's parent(s) or legal guardian(s) must reside within one of the Golden West exchanges and be a Golden West customer.
The applicant must be a high school senior.
Applicants must take the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), American College Test (ACT), or Accuplacer Vocational Entrance Exam at an examination center of their choice no later than December 31st of their senior year.
The recipient of the award must begin attending a post-secondary institution and enroll in a full-time course load (according to their institution’s credit policy) in the fall semester immediately following graduation, and must register for a full-time course load in the spring.

Abel Dolney Sunshine Scholarship
Details:
The Abel Dolney Sunshine Scholarship is intended to award $500 to a graduating senior who has shown Abel-like characteristics. Abel Dolney was a Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten student in Canistota. Abel was the sweetest, most positive, caring, and outgoing student. Abel could make anyone’s day brighter; he truly made each person he came into contact with feel special and loved. Abel passed away due to complications of a heart transplant on February 1 st , 2019. Although he is missed greatly, Abel can be found all around us in positive and kind interactions. Please complete the application below and provide one letter of reference outlining how your character exemplifies how Abel lived everyday. Please return to Mrs. Olson by 3:30 pm on Tuesday, April 22 nd , 2025. Applications received after the designated time will not be considered. The funds will be dispersed for the 2nd semester of higher education based on documentation showing enrollment.
